The flute is truly a very versatile musical instrument. You will hear the flute in many different types of music. You can hear them played in large bands, rock concerts, jazz acts and other popular music.

Decide on the Type of Flute

There are thousands of different flutes and you have to find the right one for your needs. A beginner, however, is always advised to start with a C flute. This flute makes wonderful sound and works with all types of music, but finding adult flute classes can be somewhat challenging.

How to Find the Right Adult Flute Class

Private lessons or a good music school are absolutely the best option when it comes to learning to play the flute. So if you can rearrange your schedule and find the time to take a class then this is what you should try to do. Finding the right class or school will entail a lot of inquiries. Find out how long the school has been in business, or how long the teacher has been teaching and what types of results they have gotten.

Find out what their teaching method is and whether you will get both music theory and technique. Are they teaching the type of music you are interested in? Are the classes group or private classes?

The decision too attend a group class or to have private lessons, will depend a lot on your needs and circumstances. There are people who are shy and prefer a private class, or need a private class to fit their schedule. Group class, on the other hand, is preferred by people who like working with other people and feel happy interacting regularly.

Look for a Flexible Schedule

If at all possible, find a school that has some flexibility, meaning a school that will allow you to cancel and reschedule a class once in a while, or one that will somehow allow you to make up for a lost class. You have to realize, however, that the schools value their time and those of their teachers. So cancellation doesn’t mean you will get your money back automatically. The school, after all, needs to sustain itself.

Practice Time and Additional Instruction

You must know that to play the flute with any level of proficiency you will have to set aside time to practice. Goals should be set and in the course of the lessons, rewards should be given for every goal you have achieved. This way you will have incentives to practice. You can also supplement your music school lessons with online adult flute lessons.

It is simply a matter of planning your time right before every session. Planning makes you organized and make things easier for you. Taking lessons without giving thought to the time you will spend practicing is totally irresponsible and will likely make your efforts at learning to play the flute ineffective from the start.
